West Avenue Water Main Replacement
San Antonio, Texas
Client: San Antonio Water System (SAWS)
Project involved replacement of approximately 12,500 linear feet of 6-, 8-, 12-, and 16-inch water mains along West Avenue from IH-10 to Jackson-Keller and along Jackson-Keller from West Avenue to Olmos Creek. Existing water mains were replaced due to breaks, leaks, and aging infrastructure. West Avenue is a heavily trafficked road with numerous utility crossings, including gas, sewer, telecommunications and drainage infrastructure. Design elements included replacement of 6- and 8- inch HDPE water main using pipe bursting & replacement of 12- and 16-inch mains by open cut. UPRR for bores cross under existing railroad & culverts. Floodplain development permits were coordinated to work within designated floodplain. Maestas was a subconsultant and designed approximately 1,870 linear feet of water main.
