Hart Ave Sanitary Sewer Structure Reconstruction

San Antonio, Texas
Client: San Antonio Water System (SAWS)

This project required the replacement of a large sanitary sewer structure and three junction boxes that redirected 50 MGD of flow from several sources into two 72-inch sanitary sewers outfalls. The existing structures were deteriorating from exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas. Maestas developed a seven-phase construction phasing plan to allow for replacement of these structures under flow conditions.

The project included construction of four new large structures, replacement of 42-inch and 66-inch sewers with fiberglass reinforced pipe, reconstruction of 250 linear feet of street, replacement of drainage structure and riprap, and coordination with SAWS operation staff for continuous injection of ferrous sulfate solution for odor control.
